Debrigarh Reserved Forests of famous Barapahad hills of Bargarh District of Odisha. THe entry point of the sanctuary is Dhodrokusum.
The sanctuary is famous for its sylvan beauty and pristine wilderness. The dry deciduous forests with varied flora and fauna attract the nature-lovers of Odisha and neighboring states every year. The tract lies in the Chhatisgarh-Dandakaranya region of Decan Peninsular.
Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary
The Indian Gaur is one of the prominent animals in the protected area. The terrain and the climate of Debrigarh forests provide abode to endangered four horned antelope, called Chousingha.The Tiger, Leopard, Sloth Bear, Chital or Spotted Deer, Sambar and Nilgai inhabit this almost virgin forest. Besides, a host of resident and migratory birds, the mugger crocodiles and freshwater turtles residing in large numbers, enhancing the bio-diversity of the reserve forest.
The Ushakothi water fall and the serene blue waters of Hirakud reservoir attract no. of tourists and nature lovers. The reservoir is the largest manmade water body in Asia and flanks about one third of the landscape boundary on the eastern side. This vast water body attracts thousands of Ducks, Geese and Waders for feeding and roosting in the winter, which is another attraction for bird watchers.
Here ecotourism is being managed with the involvement of local people and the Sanctuary is becoming popular year after year as it is offering easy sighting of wild animals, and better accommodation facilities at strategic locations.Accommodation is available at the Forest Rest Houses in Dhodrokusum and Dechua. One can also opt for a Tourist Cottage at Chaurasimal. Best season to visit Debrigarh Wildlife Sancturay is November to May.Enquire Now
